A Guide To Safely Cleaning Your Outside Windows

We can help you figure out how to clean outside windows so they boost your kerb appeal rather than hinder it.

A Simple Guide on How To Clean Windows Outside

Cleaning your windows from the outside can be a tricky task, and it’s crucial you follow safety precautions.

Whether it’s the height of the windows or their stubborn stains putting you off, there are ways to make cleaning your windows a less daunting task.

While some homeowners choose to hire a professional window cleaner, others prefer to do this task themselves. For those individuals, we’ve put together a step-by-step guide on how to clean outside windows in a safe and effective manner.

Preparing To Clean Your Windows

It’s important to consider the weather before cleaning your windows and never risk going out in bad weather. The optimum weather is mild, overcast days so you can get a streak-free finish.

When the weather is on your side, you’ll need to make sure you have squeegees, microfibre cloths, a bucket, and a quality cleaning solution.

If you’re looking to clean windows in high up places, you may need to get ahold of a ladder or extension pole.

A Step-by-Step on Scrubbing, Rinsing, and Drying

The first step involves removing debris from the window surfaces and using a hose to loosen any dirt that remains.

Then you’ll need to scrub the windows to remove grime with either a brush or sponge that has been soaked in warm, soapy water. For thorough cleaning, use a circular motion with the sponge.

Once all has been removed, rinse the windows with clean water to ensure all soap is washed off the windows. The last step is to dry with a squeegee or microfibre cloth to get rid of water spots and streaks.

How to Clean Windows Outside With a Ladder or Poles

Safety comes first when cleaning windows and so you should always place the ladder on stable ground, positioned at the right angle.

It’s important to maintain three points of contact with the ladder, meaning that you should always have at least three parts of your body touching the ladder, such as two feet and a hand. Never overreach to areas that aren’t immediately in your reach.

If you prefer to avoid ladders (we don’t blame you), consider using water-fed poles that have extendable brushes and jets, so you can stay on the ground and still get sparkling windows.
