The new measures means a household who uses a ‘medium’ amount of energy won’t pay over £2,500, £1000 less than the price cap 2 weeks before the announcement.
However, this figure is still significantly higher than what UK households were paying before the energy crisis. For many homeowners, energy is now one of the biggest expenses they will need to budget for.
With energy bills set to rise as homeowners turn on their heating this autumn and winter, Amber has put together some tips on how to reduce your energy usage.
Reduce your showering time
Save water, money and energy by taking shorter showers. Even knocking off 2 minutes of your shower time can make a significant reduction to your energy bills.
Experts recommend spending 5-10 minutes for a body shower. In order to track the time you spend in the shower, we recommend setting a 7 minute timer or Spotify playlist!
Dry your washing on a line outside
In terms of the energy it uses, a tumble dryer is one of the most expensive household items to run. Therefore, Amber recommends you keep an eye on the weather and dry your clothes outside in the fresh air.
It’s better to dry your clothes outside than on a radiator because your radiators would need to work harder to heat your home if they have wet clothes on them. Moreover, if you use a radiator to dry your clothes you could be contributing to condensation around your windows.
